TEAM TESTIMONIALS

CLAUDINE FERNANDEZ

Director, Treasury Credit Cards

As a Compass Group associate, I get to represent a company whose name speaks for itself globally.  I think that’s pretty awesome!  I started with Compass 15 years ago in a role that perfectly blended my education and prior professional experience. Today my role in Treasury focuses on payments.

The constant evolution of the payments landscape is exciting with the adoption of EMV, contactless payments, grab-and-go technology, mobile ordering, and innovative point-of-sale solutions.  There is always something to learn!  Supporting payments provides the opportunity to build relationships throughout all sectors and departments within the Compass organization as well as merchant acquirers, payment gateways, and value-added resellers.

There is never a dull moment in the credit card world.  It’s cliché, but teamwork makes the dream work!  This Treasury team problem-solves, creates efficiencies, works with each other’s strengths, and most importantly laughs together. I am privileged to work with extremely talented individuals who collaborate and support each other effortlessly.  Throughout all levels of the organization, the Compass culture makes this a truly great place to work!

MATTHEW ORTIZ

Lead Accountant, Field Accounting

I started with Field Accounting Services (“FAS”) in the summer of 2021 as an Associate Accountant at Chartwells Higher Education. Field Accounting here at Compass is a great place to learn, grow, and contribute. During my time with Field Accounting Services, I have felt like I have been invested in future successes. The foundation given to new employees through thorough training, mentorship program, and management support allows for proficiency in any role. Through the knowledge and experience I've brought in, alongside the information and support of “FAS,” success and internal promotions are attainable. I’ve recently accepted the Field Accounting “SuperStar”, but that credit is due to those around me. I’ve gotten the opportunity to climb to the next steps of the role with an achievable vision to keep moving up. The team employs a pay-it-forward mentality, where care is given to me, and I will then give it to my team, new associates, or even other areas of Field Accounting.

The field accounting team is a large family whose key success factor is teamwork. Although there are different parts to field accounting services, we work as a unit. Each team is willing to offer support to anyone willing to ask. The foundation Field Accounting develops and maintains makes it great for accounting of all levels. The team has mutual respect for fresh-out-of-college accountants or tenured 10-year employees. This respect allows for collective success. I have learned a lot from my colleagues, not just in my direct team but also from other roles and leaders. I like to believe I have also contributed to the development of other accountants. Although there are many sub-teams within Field Accounting Services, one would never guess, given the collaboration and synergy from the entire staff.

What makes field accounting so easy to work for is transparency. As a team, we work to make every task clear and meaningful, so I am never asked to do something unnecessary.  Should I ever need to ask a question or confirmation, I always feel comfortable asking anyone, from my fellow associates to upper management. I believe that I am not tasked to do things that management hasn’t done or been asked before. This makes me feel respected and accomplished as a professional.

I feel lucky to have found Field Accounting Services here at Compass Group. When I started, I heard nothing but good things from the training team that taught me, the teammates I would be working with, and the management team that introduced themselves. As my time here continues to grow, it becomes more apparent why these former strangers had felt this way about Field Services. Each day I learn something new about accounting and another reason why FAS is such a great team. I look forward to the following opportunities and blessings this team and job have to offer.

JOSH SIGMON

Director, Sales Tax

Compass can be summed up simply in just a few words:  Respect, Integrity, & Culture.  With over twenty years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work for many types of organizations from government, Fortune 25, private, start-up, private equity, to public.  These organizations spanned industries such as financial services, banking, manufacturing, retail, wholesale, tech, management services, construction, and others across the globe.  The colleagues, peers, and teams I’ve been fortunate to work with have been from various cultures, geographic locations, statuses, and backgrounds.  One thing I can attest to is that Compass is unique and special.

The past several years at Compass have been the most challenging and fulfilling of my career in the best way possible.  I didn’t know it then, but all my previous experiences prepared me for Compass.  The organization is very much at its core a food service company, but so many more elements and businesses underpin and support Compass and all its brands.  New concepts, ancillary businesses and products, and emerging ideas are constantly being evaluated and explored.

Compass has carefully crafted a recipe with the necessary ingredients, leading to continued success.  Everyone in the organization is treated with respect from employees, vendors, clients, shareholders, and partners.  Each action is deliberately handled with integrity for all parties.  Ethics are never compromised, which is refreshing and wonderful to see in action.  You can research and see all the rewards and commentary regarding Compass's culture and work environment, but experiencing it is the best way to understand.

RODNEY GILLIS

Supervisor, Field Accounting

Some of the immediate things I noticed on my first day at Compass were the deep level of diversity in each department, the vast number of opportunities presented to you, and the level of respect towards each individual to create a friendly, open work environment. Imagine joining a Company where you can see and interact with your leadership every day. They come from different backgrounds and are all willing to help you at any time for anything. The work culture is welcoming and maintains a good balance of professionalism and human interaction. You will truly feel that you are a part of a work family and management is always looking to help you work your way up the corporate ladder.

Beyond that, a sense of ownership in the office is hard to find at any company. Management understands that they are not perfect, nor do they expect a new graduate to come into the work environment and comprehend everything immediately. They are always looking for new ways to improve and grow as a team while keeping everyone’s best interest at heart. Even during the early stages of COVID-19, when everyone was facing unprecedented times, the leaders of the company valued their employee’s health and well being above all else. They hosted multiple conversations with the team in an effort to adapt our working style in a way that was safe and comfortable for everyone.

Our Field Accounting team supports so many aspects of financial information. Each day is a new challenge, and you might be working with multiple people. From our field operators to our supporting teams, clients and vendors, each day is truly an opportunity to learn something new. I value each interaction I have with another department as that may be a potential area of interest. You will never feel “stuck” in your position at Compass. The number of departments and teams grow each day so that we can keep up with our business growing and evolving year after year. Field Accounting is about people who strive for the best each and every day. The open work environment encourages questions and team-oriented success so that we can provide the best customer service while producing highly accurate financial statements.
